🚓 GTA 6 police & wanted system: every confirmed law enforcement agency
Seven Leonida law enforcement agencies are already confirmed — VBPD, VCPD, county sheriffs and more. What's official about GTA 6's cops, and what's still unknown.
Seven agencies are already on the books
Our knowledge base tracks seven Leonida law enforcement organizations confirmed through official trailers, screenshots and site copy — a county-by-county patchwork that mirrors real Florida policing:
- Vice City Police Department (VCPD) — the big-city force, returning to the HD Universe’s Vice City
- Vice Beach Police Department (VBPD) — Vice Beach’s own department
- Vice-Dale Police Department (VDPD) — the county-level force for Vice-Dale
- Ambrosia County Sheriff — law in the industrial north
- Leonard County Sheriff — covering Leonard County
- Leonida Department of Corrections (LDC) — the state prison authority
- POACH (Protection of Animals & Controlled Hunting) — yes, the game-warden agency is real, and its acronym tells you the tone
One more — the Port Gellhorn Police Department — appears only in leaked
material, so it carries our leaked label until Rockstar shows it.
Why the agency list matters
GTA 5 flattened almost everything into the LSPD plus sheriffs. GTA 6 confirming distinct city, beach, county and corrections agencies before launch suggests jurisdiction is part of the fiction — chases that cross from Vice City into swamp counties plausibly hand off between forces. That’s our read, labeled as such; Rockstar hasn’t described the system.
What official material actually shows
Trailer 2 and the official screenshots feature police cruisers in pursuit, helicopters over the city, and arrest imagery — plus Lucia’s story premise starting with her release from prison. No footage yet shows the HUD, wanted stars, or escalation tiers. Anyone quoting a “6-star system” or specific police AI features is citing rumor, not record.
The honest expectation
A star-based wanted system is the safest bet in the series (every mainline GTA has one), and RDR2’s witness-and-bounty tech shows where Rockstar’s systems thinking went after 2013. Expect pursuit, evasion and consequence to be richer than GTA 5 — and treat every specific claim as unconfirmed until launch.

Frequently asked questions
Will GTA 6 have a wanted level system?
Almost certainly, but the mechanics are unconfirmed. Every 3D-era and HD-era GTA used a star-based wanted system, and official GTA 6 material shows police chases and arrests. How many stars, how escalation works, and whether dispatch is smarter than GTA 5's remains unannounced.
What police departments are in GTA 6?
Confirmed via official material: the Vice City Police Department, Vice Beach Police Department, Vice-Dale Police Department, Ambrosia County Sheriff and Leonard County Sheriff, plus the Leonida Department of Corrections. The Port Gellhorn Police Department appears only in leaked material, so we label it accordingly.
Can you go to prison in GTA 6?
Not confirmed as a mechanic. The Leonida Department of Corrections is a confirmed in-world prison authority, and Lucia's official story intro places her fresh out of prison — but Rockstar hasn't shown what being arrested actually does to the player.
Will police be smarter in GTA 6 than GTA 5?
Unconfirmed. Rockstar hasn't discussed AI systems. Expectations of smarter pursuit behavior come from RDR2's improvements and from general studio trajectory — that's analysis, not fact.
