What we know about Hamlet

Hamlet first appeared in the September 2022 GTA VI leaks, where its name was listed thrice in a debug menu listing various world events, and was visually depicted in a clip of Lucia aiming an Assault Rifle at pursuing police officers from the bed of a pickup truck driving northbound through Leonida State Route 61 in the Hamlet vicinity during a mission sequence. The city officially debuted in the first trailer, where its local prison and power plant can be seen in the distance of the opening shot. It is later mentioned by name and shown more directly in a livestream featuring a hammer-wielding woman outside an apartment complex, streamed by a social media user named LuchaLibreFan, with the caption, "Neighborhood watch don't play around in Hamlet" (0:58). A Keys Causeway sign can be seen in the opening shot of the second trailer, listing Hamlet and pointing toward its direction, further confirming its location as near the southeastern tip of mainland Leonida.

Real-world inspiration analysis

Hamlet appears to be based on the city of Homestead, Florida. Both "hamlet" and "homestead" are words of Old English origin associated with rural settlements. Hamlet's main thoroughfare depicted in the September 2022 GTA VI leaks is a direct rendition of North Krome Avenue, which runs through the heart of Homestead.
