🔁 How to cancel or refund a GTA 6 pre-order (PS5, Xbox & retail)

The short version

Digital pre-orders are the easy case: both PlayStation and Xbox let you cancel a pre-order for a refund before the game releases. The closer you get to November 19 — and especially once you’re past it — the more the standard (stricter) refund rules take over. Boxed “code in box” copies follow the retailer’s return policy instead. Always confirm against the official policy pages in the sources below; storefront terms are theirs, not ours.

PlayStation Store

• Cancel from Settings → Account → Payment and Subscriptions → Purchase History or via PlayStation Support’s refund request flow.
• Pre-orders are refundable up to the release date. After release, you’re in the standard digital-refund regime — 14 days, and downloading or launching the game generally forfeits it.
• Pre-loading during the November 12 week can count as “downloaded,” so if you’re going to cancel, do it before you pre-load.

Xbox

• Go to account.microsoft.com → Order history → select the pre-order → Cancel. Microsoft’s published stance: pre-orders can be canceled for a refund any time before the release date, self-serve.
• Same post-launch reality as PlayStation: after November 19, refunds fall under the standard digital policy and playing the game weakens your case fast.

Boxed (code-in-box) copies

The box contains a download code, not a disc — which changes returns:

• Unopened / code unredeemed: normal retail return per the store’s policy.
• Code redeemed: treat it as spent — retailers generally refuse returns on exposed codes, and platform support won’t refund a code purchased from a third party. Redeeming is the point of no return.

Before you cancel, check two things

1. Wrong edition isn’t a reason to cancel. Standard upgrades to Ultimate after launch — it’s an official path, so you lose nothing by keeping the cheaper order. Full breakdown on the editions page.
