💵 GTA 6 price: what it costs, what's in each tier & the $80 question
GTA 6 costs $79.99 Standard or $99.99 Ultimate — no Collector's Edition, no disc. What each tier includes, regional price quirks, and how not to overpay.
The sticker prices
- Standard Edition — $79.99 (US), digital or boxed code-in-box.
- Ultimate Edition — $99.99, digital only. No Collector’s Edition exists.
- Every pre-order before November 20 adds the Vintage Vice City Pack; digital orders also get one month of GTA+. Full contents on the editions page and in the pre-order guide.
One regional quirk, labeled report: press coverage has flagged that pricing varies enough by country that Ultimate costs less in some regions than the US base game. Check your local storefront before assuming US numbers.
The $80 question, honestly
GTA 6 is the most-watched test of the industry’s move past $70. Rockstar hasn’t published a rationale, and we won’t invent one. The value math available today: the launch product is a single-player campaign expected — pattern-based, not confirmed — to run 35–60 hours, from a studio whose last two story games are still selling a decade later. Whether that justifies $80 for you is exactly what launch-window reviews exist to answer — and the cancellation window stays open until release day.
How not to overpay (or get burned)
- Never above retail. Digital supply is unlimited; scalped “pre-orders” exploit confusion.
- Be wary of deep discounts too — heavily-cheap keys pre-launch are classic revoked-code or phishing territory. Legitimate current links live on the deals page.
- Standard now, Ultimate later if you want it — the confirmed upgrade path means choosing cheap today costs you nothing.
- Subscriptions don’t help: GTA 6 isn’t on Game Pass or PS Plus, so the purchase price is the only door in.
What could change
Prices for editions are published and stable; what’s unannounced is everything post-launch — DLC pricing, online monetization, GTA+ perks (what’s known). Any movement lands on the news feed with a source, same day.
Frequently asked questions
How much does GTA 6 cost?
In the US: $79.99 for the Standard Edition, $99.99 for the digital-only Ultimate Edition. Those are Rockstar's published prices; press coverage notes regional pricing varies enough that Ultimate costs less in some countries than the US base game.
Why is GTA 6 $80 instead of $70?
Rockstar and Take-Two haven't published a pricing rationale — the $79.99 tag simply is the published price. It's the most visible example of the industry's move past the $70 standard, and whether it's worth it is a value question the launch-window reviews will answer.
Is GTA 6 ever on sale?
Not yet — it isn't out. Pre-launch, the price is fixed at retail everywhere legitimate; anyone selling meaningfully cheaper is a key-fraud or phishing risk, and anyone charging more is scalping a product with unlimited digital supply.
Does GTA 6 have in-game purchases at launch?
Nothing is announced for the single-player launch. GTA 5's pattern — heavy monetization via its online mode — is the reasonable expectation for when GTA 6's online mode arrives later, but on day one the sticker price is the price.
Is the $99.99 Ultimate Edition worth it?
Our editions comparison says Standard is the value play: the $20 difference buys cosmetics, five in-game businesses and two bonus side missions, and Rockstar has confirmed a Standard-to-Ultimate upgrade path after launch — so you can decide later without losing anything.
