Every GTA satirizes its decade, and official GTA 6 material makes the target unmissable: the way we film ourselves. Trailer 2 and the official site lean hard on in-world screen framing — vertical phone videos, live streams, thirst traps, bodycam and news-chopper footage. Real Dimez, the confirmed in-world rap duo, is introduced through what are effectively their in-universe music videos and social clips. This isn’t a trailer gimmick; Rockstar is presenting Leonida through its own feeds.
That’s also the strongest possible signal (labeled analysis) that the phone — GTA 5’s Swiss-army iFruit: contacts, apps, internet, snapmatic — comes back bigger, with the in-game internet upgraded from parody websites to parody feeds.
What’s confirmed vs. assumed
Confirmed by official material: smartphones exist and saturate the world; in-world social video and streaming culture are core motifs; characters (including Jason and Lucia’s circle) are shown filming and being filmed; the modern-day setting all this implies.
Not confirmed: the phone’s actual features, player posting or follower mechanics, an in-game photo mode, app lineup, or whether going viral has gameplay consequences. GTA Online’s decade of phone-driven menus makes rich phone systems the safe bet — but nothing mechanical is on the record.
Why it matters for missions
GTA 5 used the phone as a mission trigger and a fourth wall; RDR2 removed the crutch entirely.
