🎚️ Will GTA 6 run at 60fps? Graphics modes, PS5 Pro & Series S, honestly
Rockstar hasn't announced GTA 6 frame rates. What the graphics-mode reports actually say, why analysts doubt 60fps even on PS5 Pro, and what history suggests.
What Rockstar has actually said
Nothing. Frame rate, resolution, and graphics modes are all unannounced for GTA 6. The platform list is official — PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S on November 19 — but no performance spec has ever accompanied it. Every number you’ve seen is a report or an estimate, and this page sorts them honestly.
The reports (labeled: report, not fact)
Coverage in mid-2026 claimed GTA 6 will ship with quality and performance modes, with performance targeting 60fps at reduced visual settings. None of that is sourced to Rockstar. Our day-one settings guide tracks the same reports — if the modes are real, that page covers what to pick.
Why analysts are skeptical of 60fps
Digital Foundry’s read, echoed across the technical press, is that players expecting 60fps should lower expectations, on two grounds:
- The trailers show expensive things. Dense unique crowds, real-time reflections, and lighting that reads as ray-traced global illumination — see the Trailer 2 breakdown for the specific shots. Cutting enough of that for 60fps without visible downgrade is a real trade-off.
- The bottleneck is likely the CPU. The PS5 Pro upgrades the GPU and adds PSSR upscaling, but its CPU is only slightly faster than the base PS5’s. A simulation-heavy open world tends to be CPU-bound, which is why “the Pro will fix it” doesn’t automatically follow.
A 40fps mode on 120Hz displays is the compromise analysts float most often.
The Rockstar precedent
Every mainline Rockstar launch of the last fifteen years — GTA 5 in 2013, RDR2 in 2018 — shipped at 30fps on consoles, prioritizing world detail, with 60fps arriving via later hardware or the PC release. If that pattern holds, launch day is 30fps and smooth frame rates come later. Expectation, clearly labeled — and if Rockstar announces real numbers, our everything-confirmed page picks it up.

Frequently asked questions
Will GTA 6 be 60fps on PS5?
Unannounced. Rockstar has said nothing about frame rates. Technical analysts, including Digital Foundry, expect 30fps to be the realistic target on the base PS5 given the visible density of the trailers — treat 60fps claims as hope, not fact.
Will GTA 6 have a performance mode on PS5 Pro?
Unconfirmed. Reports have claimed quality and performance modes exist, but none are official. Analysts note GTA 6 is likely CPU-limited, and the PS5 Pro's CPU is only marginally faster than the base PS5, so its GPU advantage may not buy a stable 60fps.
How will GTA 6 run on Xbox Series S?
Rockstar has confirmed GTA 6 ships on Series S but said nothing about its performance profile. Expect the same target frame rate as the other consoles at reduced resolution, based on how current-gen multiplatform releases typically scale — that's an expectation, not a spec.
Could GTA 6 get a 40fps mode?
It's the middle path analysts consider most plausible for the PS5 Pro if 60fps proves out of reach — 40fps modes on 120Hz displays have become a common compromise. Nothing of the sort has been announced.
